FAQs

Frequently asked questions.

Wallpaper-specific answers and the everyday stuff. If yours isn't here, ring the shop or drop us an email.

Wallpaper basics

  • What's a pattern repeat?
The vertical distance between the top of one motif and the top of the next identical motif. A 25cm repeat is a small one, 64cm is a big one. It controls how much wallpaper you waste lining up drops, and it's listed on every product page.
  • What's the difference between straight match, offset, and free match?
Straight match: the pattern lines up at the same height across every drop. Offset (also called half-drop): every other drop shifts down by half the repeat. Free match: there's no horizontal alignment to worry about, like a stripe or a random texture. Free match is the easiest to hang and the most efficient on rolls.
  • Paste-the-wall or paste-the-paper?
Paste-the-wall: you paste the wall, hang dry paper. Faster, less mess, easier for first-timers. Paste-the-paper: you paste the back of the paper, fold it, let it soak ('booking') before hanging. Older method, still standard for some traditional papers. Each product page tells you which.
  • Is my wallpaper washable?
Most modern wallpapers are sponge-able or washable. Vinyl papers are scrubbable. Look for the symbol on the product page: one wave (sponge), two waves (washable), three waves (super washable), or a brush (scrubbable).
  • Why do batch numbers matter?
Wallpaper is printed in runs called batches. Different batches of the same design can vary slightly in colour. Always order all the rolls you need in one go, and check the batch number on every roll matches before you start hanging. If they don't, ring us before opening.
