Wilsford Wallpaper

Giles's love for subverting design tropes drew him to explore new iterations of this Sanderson archive original. The archive houses a fine collection of mid-late nineteenth century Trompe-l'oeil wallpaper patterns, depicting curtains, bows, ribbons and tassels. Here, Wilsford is cloaked in illusion, using refined screens to create the appearance of beautifully draping fabric from a distance. Created with stylised flat colours suited to rotary printing, it mimics the original document to striking effect. Like an aged, hazy memory of a bygone period—perfectly preserved and dramatically beautiful—the design rejoices in decayed decadence, repurposed in sumptuous, grand scale. Wilsford blooms like an old house, reborn, having found its way through time to be revealed in new beauty.
